«Currently the challenge facing the digital transformation in the industry is to unify the environmental environment within the scope of production with a corporate network»
Today, digital transformation is handled within the industry, IT-OT Convergence, IIOT, Industry 4.0 and Smart Factories. Experts mention that a new industrial revolution is taking place. This is done because the IP reached the production sector.
With the aforementioned, it is meant that the devices that make up the production process (sensors, controls, motors, PLC and among others) are interconnected creating an Ethernet Network.
IP devices are manageable, automatable and administrable, thus bringing enormous new possibilities. In the case of the interaction between the Corporate Network and the Industrial Network, it is when we speak of the IT-OT Convergence.
Now when the production plant is interconnected with a network, in the case of Smart Factories. On the other hand, the IIOT (Industrial Internet of Thing) is constituted by the interconnection of these devices in the production sector.
The requirements to form an Industrial Network are; protocols, applications, software, fiber, equipment, standards and cables are therefore all available in the market.
So what is the challenge?
When speaking of an Ethernet Network, reference is made to IT (Information Technology), where the IT department must interact with the OT (Operations Technology) area because the Industrial Network is Ethernet.
Getting the OT team to get support in the IT department is one of the first challenges to face. The OT needs the experience and knowledge of IT in networks.
IT personnel have to learn from OT, this being the second challenge. Likewise, learn that the Industrial Network (production plant) is made up of various components and materials used by the Corporate Network (offices).
The Industrial Network cannot be built in the same way as the Corporate Network, since there will be great possibilities of failure. It must be borne in mind that the environment in the production area is different from that of the corporate network.
In conclusion, the challenge is to unite these two worlds and, as it is a strategic objective, it must be assumed by management. Likewise, by coupling OT with IT, Digital Transformation can be made a reality.
